Volunteering Opportunity of the Month:

Choice in Hackneyis a voluntary organisation, which provides Advocacy and Independent Living Services to disabled people in London. We support disabled people from all communities to obtain the services they need to live independently, with dignity and to make choices about their lifestyles. We are a Disabled People User Led Organisation, which means we're run by disabled people, for disabled people. We are committed to empowering disabled people by working to the social model of disability.

We need (1) volunteer gardeners and (2) befrienders. (1) Volunteers are asked to spend a few hours tidying up gardens to make them usable. We ask volunteers to aim for doing one gardening session a week over a few months but we are flexible and will fit in with your availability and you can do more if you like of course!!  (2) Meet with a disabled person for a few hours a week to improve their quality of life. Have an immediate and direct positive impact on the life of a disabled person. Activities do NOT include personal care, advocacy, mentoring or other mentoring-type activities. This is purely befriending.
