and
Alice Kemp, Artist-in-Residence
Join YCL Art Circle for a visit to Rarefaction, Ione & Mann's latest edition of Art Rooms, with Beatrice Spengos (SY '02), co-founder and Director of Ione & Mann. Beatrice and artist-in-resident Alice Kemp will also talk with us about the latter's new body of work inspired by the local area and "The Language of Flowers" theme of this year's Belgravia in Bloom, which will be exhibited to coincide with the festival and the Chelsea Flower Show (just down the street!).
About Rarefaction Within a state of expansion, outside the realm of enforced inevitability, lies the space of wilful ignorance, the birthplace of all that is possible. The work of Jana Emburey, Justine Formentelli and Jonathan Kelly claims this space with an approach that is intuitive, explorative and all encompassing. Eliminating separation between past and future, process and outcome, the focus returns on the elemental, allowing for multiple points of emergence.Recurring yet evolving shapes, motifs and gestures serve as visual meditative aides creating a personal navigation system to rediscover, define and realise the world and our place within it. About Beatrice Spengos (SY '02) Beatrice Spengos received her BA in Humanities from Yale College and her MA in Medieval Art History from the Courtauld Institute. She worked at Christie’s, London for a number of years before striking out on her own as an independent art advisor, and then setting up Ione & Mann with Alkistis Koukouliou in 2015. Beatrice and Alkistis have been holding the Art Rooms shows since 2016 and work mainly, but not exclusively, with London-based artists.
About Alice Kemp Alice Kemp, who participated in the last edition of the Art Rooms, is Ione & Mann's artist-in-residence at the Courtyard Studio of 11 Eccleston Street.
