This spring the Speaker Series presents the next of its intriguing one-off lectures: join us as the Royal Academy kindly opens its doors out-of-hours and curator Martin Postle gives us an exclusive, private tour of the exhibit. The morning will begin with a delicious continental breakfast and finish in time to get to the office.
About the exhibit
This exciting new exhibit has been co-organised by the Royal Academy and the Yale Center for British Art. It is a major exploration and re-evaluation of the life and brilliant career of the enigmatic artist Johan Zoffany. Born in 1733, Zoffany created a series of virtuoso protraits and subject paintings which provide an invaluable and often unique appraisal of key British institutions and edifices: the Court, the theatre, the bourgeois family, the Empire. Of all the major artists at work in the 18th century, none explored more inventively the interstices of Georgian society and the complexity of British rule than Zoffany.
About Martin Postle
Martin Postle is Assistant Director for Academic Activities at the Paul Mellon Centre for British Art and the curator of the exhibit.
Guests are more than welcome to stay on an explore the exhibit further after the end of the tour.
