Yale Day of Service: Tower Hamlets Community Centre Artistic Workshops, Career Panels and Farming

This year’s Day of Service provides four different opportunities for Yale alums to donate their time in one location on one day this 10th of May. This is an opportunity for all Yalies and their families located in London and greater London to join E3 residents in the Borough of Tower Hamlets in: 

• artistic workshops to interact with the local community 
  
• preparing, cooking and serving a lunch to community members
  
• leading a careers panel for the local youth group
  
• weeding and preparing raised beds for further planting. 

The schedule for the Day of Service is as follows, divided per activity: 

Artistic Workshops, 11.00-13.00 (12 adults per workshop):

• Storytelling – The Oral Tradition 
  
• Storytelling – The Visual Tradition 
  
• Drawing 
  
• African drumming tutorial (TBC) 

Meal Preparation and Presentation, 10.00-12.30 (4-6 teens/adults): 

• Alums are to bring and prepare ingredients to then cook for lunch served at 13.00 to local community members 
  
• 6-8 further teens and adults are needed to prepare the hall for the serving of lunch, starting at 12.30 

Careers Panel, 12.00-13.00 / 14.30-15.30: 

• There will be two scheduled careers panels consisting of 4-6 YCL volunteers 
  
• Each panel will present to approximately 12 E3 teenagers 

Weeding and Gardening, 10.00-13.00 (6-8 adults/teens): 

• This will be a chance for younger children of alums to give some time to this important addition to the community centre 
  

A buffet lunch for all volunteers and local community members will be given from 13.00-14.30, and there will be presentations given in relation to the work of Eastend Homes in Tower Hamlets. Following lunch, volunteers are asked to clean up the eating area and kitchen. Finally, tea and plenary will be offered from 15.30-16.00.
