About the Speaker:

Scott Moeller (TC ’76, SOM '78) has worked in and around the M&A industry since his graduation. He started with Booz Allen & Hamilton, then Morgan Stanley (NY, Tokyo and Frankfurt) and finally with Deutsche Bank (in London, where he has lived since 1996).  He re-entered academia in 2002 and is currently Professor in the Practice of Finance and Director, M&A Research Centre at Cass Business School, City University London where he teaches and researches M&A.  He also sits on several corporate boards and is an advisor to the UK government on changes in the UK takeover policy.  Scott is a frequent commentator on M&A deals in the press and on TV (BBC, CNBC, Bloomberg, etc).  He has written a number of books and articles on M&A, including the popular 'Surviving M&A:  How to make the most of your company being acquired' (Wiley, 2009).  It is this book which will also serve as a topic of discussion, as it covers the personal side of M&A in terms of what an individual should do to reduce the likelihood of being made redundant following a merger or acquisition.

About the Talk:

This will be an interactive discussion where Professor Scott Moeller will first give some background to the growth of the M&A market over the course of the past 40 years (which does coincide with the approximate time since his graduation from Yale) when the size of global M&A activity grew by 3000% from a market of less than $100 billion to today's level of over $3.0 trillion.  He will cover recent trends and possible future developments, including the massive growth in cross-border and emerging markets M&A, not to say the growth in massive mega-deals that make the front pages of even the popular press
