About the Event:
Members of the Yale Club of London are warmly invited to join the MIT Club of Great Britain for their next speaking event in the Finance and Business Series.
Nicola Shaw, CEO of High Speed 1 Ltd and Non-Executive Board Member of Aer Lingus Group plc, will be discussing “Managing competitive businesses in semi-regulated industries”. We are pleased and honoured to have Ms. Shaw come speak to us. She has extensive experience in running commercial businesses which face a degree of regulation. HS1 Ltd is owned by two major Canadian pension funds – Borealis and Ontario Teachers. Aer Lingus is part owned by the Irish Government and Ryanair, respectively. The airline has been subject to numerous takeover bids in recent years. Ms. Shaw previously was Managing Director of a major Business Division of FirstGroup plc and sat on the main Board. She was also MD of Operations at the Strategic Rail Authority. Her career in public transport, both in the UK and overseas, has included roles at the Office of the Rail Regulator (ORR), Bechtel, Halcrow, the World Bank and Transport for London.
