About the Production:
This summer, The Eno River Players, in collaboration with the Yale Bookends, embark on their first international tour, performing Dead Souls in Durham, New York, and London.
This new translation by Illya Khodosh of Mikhail Bulgakov’s 1932 adaptation of Gogol's classic novel, Dead Souls, follows the exploits of Chichikov, a social climbing conman, as he journeys aboard his troika through the Russian countryside purchasing dead serfs. Dead Souls is a hilarious and pointed satire of Imperial Russian aristocracy and the the quotidian cruelty of the bourgeoisie. The first ever English production of Bulgakov’s famous adaptation, this show brings an important piece of theater history to life with original, often bizarre staging well suited for Gogol’s epic of the everyday grotesque.
Directed by Leo Eggar (YC '23) and starring Hamzah Jhaveri (YC '23), Dominic Sullivan (YC/BF '23), and Nico Taylor, (YC '22) this version of Dead Souls features three actors playing over 30 roles. The runtime is under 70 minutes, with no intermission.
Ticket & Information:
If you're planning to go see the show, do get in contact with Dom to let him know. The theatre is located above The Oxford Arms pub in Camden, a great place to convene after the show. The creative team would very much enjoy meeting some fellow Yalies!
